Friends

My oldest best friend — John.

One of the most important things in life is having friends. They are an important addition to the one that you will spend the rest of your life with. Hey, if that someone special kicks you out, you have to crash on someone’s couch!

You should make a lot of friends in life; do you know how many you really stay close to as the years go on? Do you know how many true friends people really have? I don’t know, I was asking you… all I know is that it’s probably not very many. Some people you don’t want for lifetime friends… believe me I know a few. At the same time, there are some that you really need. I am pretty lucky that my wife is my best friend.

In addition to having someone to go out and drink with, you need someone there for you when you’ve hit rock bottom. When you simply cannot go any lower, you can count on your true friends to pull you through. Now, some times your friends get you in trouble. That’s okay, because you know what… shit happens. But, you have to understand that there is a limit on what you can blame on your friends. You are still responsible for your own actions. There are some times that I’ve really messed up. I’d like to say that it’s my friends fault, “he kept buying the beer,” “I was driving but he told me to turn,” etc… Hey, good try but ultimately you are responsible for yourself.

One more thing, your friends will only take so much. So, if you have this uncontrollable need to abuse your friends, abuse the friends that you don’t really like! :-)

Don’t forget your family as being your friends. I am pretty close to both of my brothers and really worry about them a lot. I love them both and have a great time when we see each other.

Family and friends should be a top priority if they are not already.
